Stay In Touch using RSS

Use the DEVBUZZ RSS feeds to stay in touch with new articles, blog posts etc.

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it has changed the way tech junkies stay in touch with the latest developments and breaking news on the web. If you're a neat freak like me you will remember having organized your browser bookmarks into different categories. One of my categories used to be "Daily Checkers" - the sites I would check on a daily basis. The problem with this was that I needed to do this every day to see whether there was any new content - and most days I was just too busy to get through the list.

So how does RSS work?

RSS saves you from having to manually check web sites for new content. The web site owner enables an RSS feed which is essentially an XML file with standard fields describing content items on that site. You subscribe to an RSS feed using an RSS reader which interprets this file keeping track of the items you have read and checking periodically for new items. Once you have your hands on an RSS reader the rest of the process works very similarly to how you read and receive email. In fact Outlook 2007 has a built in RSS reader.

Wherever you see the RSS feed icon RSS icon - it's your queue that you can click on the icon and subscribe to an RSS feed.
