Just starting out... by Derek Mitchell
DEVBUZZ.COM has grown phenomenally since
we launched in October 2000, both in terms of content and
readership. We now serve over 3 million page views a month
(April 2004) catering to some 240,000 visitors a month (47%
of those vistors are repeat visitors).
Initially most of our content related
to the first steps required to get started programming in
eVB on the Pocket PC. Since then, with the advent of the
Compact Framework (.NET CF) DEVBUZZ no longer focuses solely
on eVB. The Compact Framework is undoubtedly the future
of Pocket PC development. If you have used eVB in the past
then you've come to the right place to transition to .NET
CF.
It is our goal to make DEVBUZZ.COM
the premier site for Pocket PC development information -
as new technologies emerge we will change with the times,
bringing you the most up to date and reliable information.
.NET Compact Framework Information
If you succumb to the insane urge to
change the development world with the awesome combination
of .NET CF and the PocketPC a good place to start is the
.NET
CF information in our forums. Don't forget to check
out our excellent Compact
Framework articles as well. Click
here to go to the forum registration page. As you progress
down the road in your Pocket PC development career we would
encourage you to share your knowledge by submitting your
own tutorials or participating in the forums.
We frequently run author
competitons with some great prizes.
If you have an idea for a tutorial please email
me.
The eVB legacy
For those of you required to use eVB,
perhaps owing to significant corporate investment in that
platform - rest assured we will continue to maintain the
most comprehensive collection of eVB information on the
web in our eVB
forums and articles.
To start programming for the Pocket PC using eVB
you need to download the eMbedded Visual Tools suite - this
will give you access to eMbedded Visual Basic 3.0. The following
tutorial will give you a comprehensive overview of installing
eMbedded Visual Tools. As you progress you will come
across some user interface issues such as how
to create a tap and hold menu (popup menu) or how
to create an eVB Menubar. Once you have mastered these
concepts there are a plethora of other tutorials in our
eVB
starting out section, some easy and some pretty advanced.
When you get to the stage that you need to manipulate information
on your PocketPC using eVB check out our database
tutorials where you will find information on all aspects
of ADOCE programming.
