Sometimes to my chagrin I need the cathexis of admitting to someone that I'm a web junkie. I like to know that I can get connected wherever I am. So that's how it started with my (dare I say it) wireless palm (note no caps!). However until Omnisky comes out with their $40/month wireless service for the Pocket PC I'm stuck with the wired world. As soon as I started my search for a Pocket PC modem I realized it would have to be Compact Flash compatible - what with Compaq iPAQ PC Card Expansion Pack being like hen's teeth. I saw one one ebay go for $400! As much as the decision to go Compact Flash burns me, since I have a perfectly good and compatible PC Card modem, I'm glad I did. Bear in mind that you will need the Compact Flash sleeve if you own an iPAQ.

I did the Amazon next day delivery and true to form the goods arrived the next day. I unpacked it and started with the Pretec Quick Start guide.

The following screens will walk you through the setup options required. It was easy and quick!

First you head over to Start -> Settings and click the Connections tab.

Tap Modem followed by New Connection.

Enter a connection name, verify that Pretec 3.3v 56k is the default modem and change the baud settings to 57.600 kbps.

Next click Advanced, go with the default Port Settings click on the TCP/IP tab.
