Windows Mobile Insurance Enrollment Case Study
Insurance Enrollment Application.
The
Client
National insurance carrier targeting insurance enrollment for
multi-national US companies. The client offers guaranteed health and
life coverage for large organizations.
Business Case
The insurance carrier sends enrollers to client sites to enroll their
"clients" employees in guaranteed health and life coverage. The carrier
needs remote access to confidential employee data as well as policy
questionnaires in order to efficiently enroll employees. For example;
when an enroller is on site they need to be able to look up a specific
employee's details and enroll them in various policies, providing
explanations and advice as they proceed. During this process they need
access to the policy qualification requirements.
The Solution
A Pocket PC solution providing remote connectivity to the carrier's
policy database allowed the enrollers to enroll their client's employees
on site. The enrollers pull up any employee information they currently
have via their social security number and then guide the employee
through the enrollment process using a wizard like interface. The wizard
dynamically builds form panels based upon the policy requirements chosen
by the employee, pre-filling as many of the fields as possible (from the
carrier database). On completion the employee would sign their
acceptance on the device and the data would be transmitted to the
insurance carrier.
A middleware application was also developed that emailed a PDF copy of
the finalized insurance policy and it's benefits to the employee.
Mobile Hardware
An HP iPAQ with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capability was chosen as the target
device due to the large number of devices required by the enrollers and
the relatively "device friendly" environment. A ruggedized device was
not imperative and the iPAQs minimized the capital expenditure.
