Windows Mobile Courier Case Study
Handheld Courier Application
The
Client
A key player in the courier, dispatch and warehousing software industry
required a handheld solution that would interface with their back office
solution.
Business Case
The client's courier and dispatch application requires a handheld
solution to enable couriers to interact with orders whilst en route. The
solution must allow the driver to accept jobs, enter pickup and delivery
times, scan packages, capture signatures as well as edit other aspects
of the order.
The Solution
A multi-threaded solution running on Windows Mobile devices with
scanner, GPS and WiFi features provide the remote couriers the
capability to accept orders, scan associated packages during loading,
capture additional order information, provide proof of delivery
signatures and seamlessly send the captured data back to dispatch. The
application utilizes "store and forward" functionality which sends the
captured information to the server when connectivity is available. GPS
positions are sent to the back office on a background thread allowing
dispatch to track courier progress.
Mobile Hardware
Symbol, Intermec and Psion devices with color LCDs, built in WiFi, GPS
and bar code scanning capabilities.
