Windows Mobile Facilities Management Case Study
Facilities Management Application
The
Client
A facilities management company required an automated inspection and
reporting tool.
Business Case
The client requires a standardized set of metrics that it can use to
assess the state of various facilities that it manages. The services are
divided into "hard services" and "soft services." Hard services includes
assessing whether a building's air conditioning is operating
efficiently, reliably, safely and legally. Soft services relate to tasks
such as ensuring that the building is cleaned properly and regularly or
monitoring the performance of contractors (e.g. builders, electricians).
It is important to assess these services in a uniform and consistent
fashion in order to measure service provision against service
agreements.
The Solution
A Pocket PC solution that supported a top-down decision tree wizard was
designed to facilitate the inspection process. The inspector chooses the
client and type of inspection to perform which triggers a series of
question forms with standard responses and related criteria.. GPS
snapshots are captured at each stage for auditing and reporting
purposes.
Mobile Hardware
Intermec device with color LCD, GPS
and bar code scanning capabilities.
