The
week before last I attended Microsoft's first Mobility Developers
Conference in London. My expectations of the event were
high but I really wasn't sure how much hype there would
be verses delivery. I have a decidedly techie perspective
of Pocket PC development a sort of "show me the
code". In this and many other respects the conference
really delivered! By the way if you're looking for the agenda
or more general information about the conference check the
Mobility
Developers Conference site - I just checked and it's
still available. The conference was based in the London
Hilton Metropole which proved to be a great venue.
The conference took part over 2 days,
Wednesday and Thursday (17th and 18th) of April with a pre-conference
session on the .NET Framework on the Tuesday afternoon.
Although I attended the pre-conference session I was expecting
a greater technical depth. It would have been good for people
looking for a very general overview of what the .NET revolution
means to the developers.
Conference Apps
The entire conference venue was 802.11
enabled for wireless internet access. A neat touch were
the Pocket PC applications developed to support and help
the conference attendees. Everyone attending had the opportunity
to borrow a Pocket PC and 802.11 card with these applications
preloaded for the duration of the conference. The apps were
a combination of Pocket Internet Explorer and and .NET Compact
Framework apps. The confnet app was particularly
cool since it allowed you to locate fellow attendees by
determining the 802.11 access point they were logged into
in each of the conference rooms.
